Why You Should Include Detox Baths in Your Beauty Routine

Between wellness collections, self-care rituals, and all-natural formulas, the beauty industry has become overwhelmed with personal care products. When it comes to skincare alone, the list of products you should use for your face and hands is seemingly limitless. While baths might seem like a schedule filler that you don’t have enough time for, introducing detox baths into your beauty routine could be a game changer for your overall skin health.

 


Just like once-a-week facials, soaking in a detox bath weekly or bi-weekly is not only relaxing for your mind, but rejuvenating for your body. As the body ages, natural detoxification processes tend to slow down too. Everything applied to the skin is absorbed into the body, making regular detoxification a smart ritual to keep you healthy from the inside out.

But what are detox bath soaks? A detox bath is a therapeutic soak in Epsom salts, essential oils, and other natural ingredients formulated to flush out toxins. Epsom salt contains magnesium, a mineral most have a deficiency in. Magnesium reduces inflammation and relieves pressure on nerves. Epsom salts don’t dehydrate skin like sea salts, making it easy for other ingredients like coconut and shea butter to hydrate skin and create a stronger exterior barrier that lasts.

Epsom salt also has several health benefits outside of detoxification.

Once you draw your bath, try to get the temperature to a hot level to increase perspiration to easily draw out toxins. Step into the bath and immerse your body up to your neck. Try and stay in the soak for at least 20 minutes. Don’t use any exfoliants or harsh soaps while in the detox bath, since your pores will be more open and sensitive to damage.

After you finish your soak, feel free to take a cool shower or apply a natural moisturizer as soon as you step out of the tub. The simpler the ingredients, the better. Shea butter, coconut oil, and mango butter are fantastic hydrating ingredients that nourish while moisturizing.

Looking for a soothing bath experience without the detox? Bath oil beads are a wonderful compromise between a bubble bath and detox bath soak. Place one or two of the beads in a warm bath, letting them slowly dissolve and moisturize while giving off a gentle fragrance. Introduce baths into your pre-bedtime routine and feel clean, soft, and rejuvenated before going to sleep. Make sure to hydrate with a cool glass of water before and after your bath.
